GOVERNMENT DEGREE COLLEGE THACHI

Thachi, a heavenly valley in Balichowki Tehsil of Seraj area of Mandi District, located at 2250 meters of height above the left bank of river Beas, near Great Himalayan National Park, connected by bridge at Thalout (Kullu Manali National Highway) 24 Kms from Thalout while 37Kms from NH via Balichowki-Larji , surrounded by lush green meadows, extensive orchards, vegetation and sylvan beauty is an ideal place for institution of higher learning. Geographically, it is a very difficult area, despite availability of modes of transportation, it becomes very tough to reach here especially during rainy season and winters due to frequent landslides and heavy snowfall. Keeping in view the comfort of the youth, it is a great blessing to have a degree college in such a perfect, peaceful and congenial environment.

With the opening of an institution of higher learning the long cherished dream of hardworking natives have come true.

Government Degree College Thachi, established in September 2017 (though it became functional in 2018) has opened up new vistas of knowledge for the youth and especially the girls for whom college education was a mere dream before. Now they have access of knowledge at their doorstep.

At present College offers a graduate program in Arts and Commerce and thus is catering to the academic needs of more than fifty villages.In the very first year of opening, the overwhelming response of the youth has justified the establishment of new college in this rural setup. The institute boasts of having 50 students (28 girls and 22 boys) and the day is not far off when the institution will be ranked among the best colleges of Himachal Pradesh and prove a milestone in the arena of higher education.

Though at present the institution is being run in a make shift accomodation in the premises of Government Senior Secondary School Thachi, yet the infrastructure is sufficient to meet the requirement of the present student strength. With the inaguration of new science block of school, this building will be handed over for use in July / August this year. The school authorities provide full support and co-operation and the school playground is open to college students as well.

In order to establish it’s own campus, a piece of land has been identified and the process is underway for transfer of this land. On completion of transfer process, the construction of new building will start. Later on when the college will have it’s own campus, other subjects, Science faculty and other professional courses will be introduced.

The first ever Parents Teacher Association has also been constituted on 31st July 2018, so as to make parents aware of the schemes for students being implemented and various development activities undertaken from time to time. Sh. Geetanand, Sh. Khem Raj, Sh. Kaul Ram and Dr. Pawan Kumar were chosen executive members unanimously.

The first ever CSCA body was allso formed on merit basis on 19th Sept. 2018. Miss Anita, Mr. Bhagirath, Mr. Ved Prakash and Mr. Bar Chand were chosen the executive members.

The college aims to provide equity, quality and updating of the knowledge and skills of students to equip them better to face the fast evolving competition and challenges of life, thus focussing overall development of their personality.

Students are expected to make most of their time in this temple of learning and go confident, determined and refined citizens of the nation. It is expected that they fulfil their individual aspirations as well as that of society at large.

The staff members are actively involved in disseminating knowledge and endeavouring continously in honing skills of the aspirants.
